Remembrance Day
On 14th November, I was joined by by the Secondary Head Student and two Senior Prefects at this year's ceremony to mark Memorial Sunday. The New Zealand Embassy were kind enough to invite us to the event at the Allied and Commonwealth War Cemetery and to ask us to perform a reading, which was completed very memorably by Ilayda.
Remembrance Day is a day of commemoration held each year in November, on which we pause for two minutes of silence to remember the service and sacrifice of women and men who gave their lives in wars, conflicts and peace operations.
It was an honour to be part of this event, completing the reading of Isaac Rosenberg's poem, August 1914 as well as handing over a beautiful wreath on the behalf of the school. Many ambassadors and generals from all over the world participated and showed their respect on the behalf of their country.
Not only is it important to remember the bravery of the young men and women who have sacrificed their lives, but also the importance of reflecting on past events and being reminded of them, in order to prevent them from happening in the future. Many thanks to the Embassy of New Zealand for inviting us to this notable and important ceremony.
