Runner-up prize
Mr Holden, Visual Arts Teacher
Our student Alisa in Grade 12 has been awarded the runner-up prize for the 2024 COBIS Art Competition. The students had to submit a work that responded to the title 'a future to be proud of'. Alisa submitted a self-portrait, depicting the moment that she had to pack her bags and leave her home in Ukraine, following the Russian invasion. The judges were extremely impressed with Alisa's oil painting and gave the following feedback:
“A poignant self-portrait that shows great sensitivity and uses personal experience and story to depict a dramatic journey. Packing the bag offers a clue as to the next part of the story. Beautifully executed in oils, the focal point and central figure is wrapped in a relaxing glow of green hues complementing the warm yellow ochres and earthy colours of the clothing.”
