Maths Challenge

Maths Challenge

On Wednesday 1st February twenty-six students from Grades 8, 9, and 10 participated in the Intermediate Maths Challenge hosted by the United Kingdom Mathematical Trust. After the success of the Senior Maths Challenge, which took place in the Autumn term, it was the turn of some of the younger years. The challenge, completed by students from both the UK and Overseas, includes a set of particularly rigorous questions. Plenty of tricks and twists encourage the students to use their mathematical knowledge in completely novel contexts.

This is the second time we have run the Intermediate competition at the school and a number of our students have returned eager to get stuck into the unusual and challenging questions. The twenty-five thought provoking questions kept the students focused for the full hour. The buzz of brains whirring and pencils tapping were the only sounds in the library!

A huge congratulations to all of the students who took part! The results will be back in just a few weeks' time. The department will also be running the Junior Maths Challenge for Grades 6 and 7 just after the Easter break, so watch this space...
