GISST Cross Country

GISST Cross Country

Mr Nicholson (GISST Coordinator)

The GISST Cross Country runners had a fantastic, sunny and successful experience in Leipzig on Friday 7th October. They gave their all and fought against the challenges they confronted. Our students faced the usual strong opposition, muddy puddles and having to run 2.8 or 4.8 kilometres (depending on their age). For the younger students, the challenge of running against those two years their senior - in age, experience and fitness/strength – was a tough one. As with previous years, many students picked up where they left off last year and all of them improved their times and positions. This is a tremendous sign of mental strength that sport participation can give you. We are so proud of them.

My thanks go to Mr Murphy for coming with us and helping to make it the day it was. A huge thank you goes to Mrs Eckert, Ms Philipp and Mr Murphy for hosting the running clubs at Secondary, which have enabled and supported those who attend to practise and learn the art of running.

The results in short:

U14 girls came 2nd overall, Katarina came 4th, but the other runners’ finishing positions ensured the team’s excellent 2nd place finish!

U14 boys finished 4th overall, but only missed 3rd by a few points! Well done indeed to you all.

Varsity girls finished in 6th overall. Matilda finishing in 5th place. A huge well done here too!

Varsity boys runner David was 2nd and five of the runners all beat the course record time, so the standard was obviously very high. Well done, David. The team finished 5th overall. All our Varsity Boys runners, except David, were new to cross country, so no past records to break here!
