Determination against tough opposition

A three session crash course in the rudiments of badminton coupled with never failing determination and team spirit was enough to secure some impressive results in the face of some very experienced opposition.
By the end of the first day each player had won at least one set giving us a favourable standing in the group tables. In addition Jack Large made it through to the quarter finals before being knocked out by one of the eventual finalists.
Saturday’s focus turned to doubles and saw some very entertaining games - notably Sophie and Amelie taking 16 points against the eventual winners. On the day the girls proved the most successful finishing one just one place above the boys in 4th.
The quality of the opposition cannot be understated, but the players gave 101% and gained invaluable experience ready for next year’s tournament.
It was with aching limbs that pupils returned to Berlin. Quote of the tournament following a 21:2 defeat: “That was a great game, I really enjoyed it!” Undisputable proof that it’s all about taking part!
Thank you to everyone who helped to make the trip such an enjoyable one.

Girls: Cheng Foo, Sophie Röller, Amelié Judet and Annicka Ehrl
Boys: Jack Large, Florian Kuke, Freddy Ehrl and Zach Hassanali
