Houses
BBS operates a house system, the basic aim of which is to generate a team spirit and introduce competition into school events. All students and teachers are allocated to one of the four school houses. Every class has students in each house to ensure a good whole–school balance. Siblings are always in the same house. Senior pupils of Primary School and Secondary School are elected house captains. They organise house meetings to discuss progress and organise teams.
At Early Years and Primary School students can earn house points for good work and behaviour and these are recorded on charts displayed in classrooms. When children gain 4 house points they receive a commendation. Certificates and prizes are awarded when children reach the milestones of 10, 25, 50, 75 and 100 commendations.
At Secondary School, merits are given to students for a high level of achievement, improvement in the standard of their work, the effort applied to their work and for social contributions. Merits are recorded in the students’ homework diaries and collated by the form tutor on a weekly basis. Achievement and Effort Certificates are awarded at the end of each term to nominated students in Years 7-9.
