A gift for life

We wanted to give our daughter something that
- you can take anywhere
- always retains its value
- one can never lose

This can only mean a good education with broad cultural and extracurricular activities and the transmission of values and social skills.
For all these reasons we decided on BBS!

Ilka Hartmann, Vice President at Commerzbank

We have four children at BBS, our youngest in Nursery, our 6 and 8 year olds old in Primary School and our eldest at Secondary School. We recommend anyone living in Berlin who wants their children to benefit from a British and International education in a German setting to consider sending their children to BBS. The school offers British academic classroom teaching from highly qualified, caring and motivated teachers in a fantastic setting with many outdoors facilities. The school encourages learning in a disciplined British manner, yet allows children to express themselves through much interaction, whether it be in class, sport, after school clubs, music, or the theatre - to name only a few of the opportunities available. Giving children the best start in life is what BBS is all about!

Our two daughters, Paige and Claudia, currently attend the Primary School at BBS and we could not be happier with their experiences there to date.  As parents, we share their enthusiasm for the school.  We can only hope that their future, continued education in the United States will one day approach that which they have received at BBS.  As American parents, we especially value the intimate class structure, the diversity of students, and the wide selection of educational, musical, and athletic offerings, particularly for the early age groups.  The use of a dress code and implementation of disciplinary principles have also allowed our children to concentrate on the curriculum and avoid the distractions which often beset other schools.  As a result, our daughters have formed a positive impression, at an early age, as to how enjoyable education can and should be.  We believe our experiences at BBS have formed a solid educational foundation which our daughters will always remember fondly and will serve them for the rest of their years in education, and beyond.

We have three children at the Berlin British School in Nursery, Year 2 and Year 4.  Our children are eager to go to school everyday, enjoy learning, participate in many extracurricular activities and have good relationships with the staff at school. The Berlin British School offers a structured curriculum introduced at a young age but implemented in manner which contributes to an enjoyment, and lifelong love, of learning.  We find the staff to be warm and friendly, interested in the children's wellbeing and dedicated to providing the best education possible.  We would not hesitate to recommend the Berlin British School to any parent who is interested in developing a well behaved, well adjusted and confident child.

From my personal experience I cannot pick one thing I enjoyed most about BBS. It's the whole experience that I miss. It comes as a package: the learning, the friendships, the art events, and the national school sports competition. The facilities and the campus, located near a quiet and beautiful forest, make everything more enjoyable. BBS gave me the great  opportunity to study in small groups, and every student always received the attention required. The teachers at the school are dedicated and always ready to help, and so dedicated that I once received six hours of individual support and feedback on a single report. The staff want you to succeed and will do everything possible to help you develop your skills, and gain new ones.  The dedication of the teachers still amazes me to this today. The IB students at BBS were united in the best possible way. Having experienced two years of IB at BBS I would not trade them for any other school if I had my time again.

Before I came to BBS I was an unfocused and wayward student. My English was not very good at the beginning, but I tried really hard to master the language. The real turnaround in my school life happened when I started the IB at BBS, where I realised I had to work hard for my own future. I stayed behind after school to work and took responsibility for my future. The teachers helped me to fulfil my potential by interesting me in their subject and proved to be very helpful whenever I had a question or wanted clarification. I am very grateful to BBS for helping me to achieve 37 points in my IB diploma. This year I am completing my BSc in Medical Science and I plan to start a PhD the following year.

When I think back to my IB years many good memories come back to me. BBS was an excellent environment for me. The size of our class was optimal. The teachers always made sure I understood everything; they always sought interaction with the students. I am sure that having been able to study in the unique surroundings of the beautiful location in the forest helped me. I also profited from the strictness the teachers had with regards to deadlines. What I suspect is unique about BBS is the way the teachers managed to be very professional, while at the same time being friendly and engaging. They were certainly always very supportive. I believe I had an excellent secondary education. The school also helped me gain certain ‘soft-skills’ as it gave me the opportunity to participate in events such as MUN.

The relatively small class sizes were definitely helpful in creating a positive, supportive learning environment and the teachers did a great job in preparing us for the final exams. The IB programme was very challenging and in my opinion prepared us extremely well for university. The workload and expectations regarding essay writing skills at university level didn't overwhelm me due to the fact that I had studied IB. Other students in my course who had done A-Levels seemed to struggle more, especially at the beginning.
