Learning Support
At BBS, Learning Support refers to any additional provision a child may benefit from; and this encompasses a number of areas:
- English as an Additional Language (EAL)
- Special Educational Needs (SEN) provides support with academic progress, intervention programmes for behavioural or emotional issues, support for physical, speech and language needs
- Gifted and Talented programmes (G & T)
Pupils who receive additional support may be referred by the class or subject teacher, parents, the child himself, or a previous school and/or diagnostic assessment.
The Learning Support Co-ordinator takes responsibility for monitoring and managing a child’s additional provision. This may entail an Individual Education Plan (IEP) which highlights specific targets tailored to the individual needs of the child and gives details of strategies to be used by the class teacher, subject teacher, teaching assistant or Learning Support Co-ordinator.
The extra provision is reviewed on a regular basis and all information is shared with parents through reports and/or regular meetings, as necessary.
For further information please contact the Learning Support Co-ordinators, Mrs Smith-Siebold at Primary School and Mrs McWilliam at Secondary School.
