School Management

Graham Lacey: Head

Mr Graham Lacey joined Berlin British School as Head in September 2010, having graduated with a History degree from St Andrews University and a PGCE from Durham. In 2007 he acquired the National Professional Qualification for Headship. Before moving to Berlin, Mr Lacey spent most of his professional career at Sevenoaks School, one of the most successful independent schools in the UK. For his last six years at the school, in his position as Deputy Head Academic, he managed the transition towards the school becoming an all-IB diploma Sixth Form in which over 400 students study the qualification. Amongst other initiatives, he set up the school’s Centre for Innovation and Excellence. Since becoming Head at BBS he has written and published the school’s Development Plan which charts the way ahead for the school over the next five or so years. Strongly believing that it is a school’s responsibility to provide the necessary nutrition and appropriate environment for young people’s intellectual growth, Graham sees his job as a vocation as well as a privilege for him.

Sian Schutz: Deputy Head and Head of Secondary School

Mrs Sian Schutz is one of the longest serving and most experienced members of staff at BBS.  A graduate of the University of Wales, where she obtained her MA and PGCE,  she was for many years the Head of a large and active Music Department at a Girls’ School in South Wales.  She moved to Berlin with her husband and three daughters in 1998, and has taught at BBS for twelve years.  Originally Director of Music, Mrs Schutz was appointed Deputy Head in 2003, and has been based at Secondary School since 2008.

Wiebke Lohrmann: Business Manager

Ms Wiebke Lohrmann joined BBS in 2009. Born in Bremen, Germany, she studied European Business Administration in London and at the ESB Business School in Reutlingen, majoring in Marketing and Controlling. After working as a Consultant for Ernst & Young and being self-employed, she moved into the educational business as managing director at a private university in northern Germany. Subsequent posts in private higher education administration brought her to Berlin in 2006. Besides her work at BBS, Ms Lohrmann is finishing off her MBA in Education Management.

Jonathan Garrard: Head of Primary School

Mr Jon Garrard has been Head of the Primary School for three years, having gained more than 15 years experience in teaching and education management across the entire primary age range in England and internationally.  He has a degree in Economics from Nottingham Trent University and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the Institute of Education, London University.  In between juggling family life and work, Mr Garrard continues to study and is well on the way to completing a Masters in International Education from the University of Bath.

Kathleen Jackson: Head of Early Years

Mrs Jackson has worked at BBS for seven years and been acting Head of Early Years since July 2009. She qualified as a teacher in 1976 and has extensive experience of working with children from Nursery to Year 7. After many years working in England, first in Harrow and then in the North West, Mrs Jackson decided it was time for a change. Her children having grown up and left home, she was offered a position at BBS and decided to leave the UK for Berlin. She fell in love with the school and the city and hopes to remain here for the foreseeable future.
