Admissions

We look very much forward to welcoming you to Berlin British School

Visit the school

As part of our admissions process we encourage interested families with their children to plan a visit to the school during school hours. Appointments can be made in advance via our Admissions Officer to arrange a tour of the school and an interview with the Head of School on each site. Of course, we will also accommodate walk-ins Mondays to Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or per special request. Please bring along additional documents, such as previous school reports and transcripts that are required for the application process, but will also support the meeting with the Head of School. As a next step the Head of School may offer a 3 day trial period.

Trial days and assessments

Trial days give both students and teachers the opportunity to get to know each other and the school to evaluate the pupil academically and observe your child’s social adaptability to the school ethos.German language skills are not a pre-requisite to attend BBS. During this visit the school will assess prospective students from Year 1 to Year 9 in their reading skills and in the areas of English, Math, Science and Information and Communication Technology based on the standards of the English National Curriculum. The assessment results of these online GOAL tests that we use are part of our integrated admissions process and provide an academic evaluation of the incoming student. Further information on the GOAL test can be downloaded here:GOAL.pdf

In Nursery and Reception we use an informal means of assessment developed by the staff and used throughout the school year. This involves observing the children as they go about their activities and assessing their progress.

Enrolment meeting

The admissions process concludes in a meeting with parents, students if applicable and Head of School to analyse the trial period and assessment results. On a mutual agreement a place in school will be offered.
