About Us
Message from the new Head
Welcome to the Berlin British School and its international community. It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself as the new Headteacher of the Berlin British School. It is an exciting time for me and my family as we make the move from the UK to one of the greatest cities in the world. For myself, having spent most of my career in one of the leading independent schools in the UK, I now relish the prospect of taking on my new professional responsibility so that I can help build on the School’s excellent reputation, as well as lead it to its next stage of development in the years ahead.
I very much look forward to meeting all those who have a current stake or interest in the school, whether as members of staff, parents or students themselves. But I also welcome contact from those who are interested in joining the school community as parents or students who are looking for a unique educational experience which successfully blends a commitment to internationalism with all that is best about the British educational system. It was this combination that chiefly attracted me to take on my new role, and makes the Berlin British School like no other. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
Welcome to our school!
Graham Lacey

Please find here the Inaugural Speech of the incoming Head Mr. Graham Lacey, who will take up his responsibilities in August 2010.
Foreword by the British Ambassador his Excellency Sir Michael Arthur

Berlin British School has a long and very successful tradition in this city. I am delighted that Berlin British School can keep the strong traditions of British education going, and offer pupils from a pre-primary age right through to school graduation a full range of the British educational tradition and experience. Parents in Berlin need that option.
Like so many leading schools in Britain now, Berlin British School offers both the International GCSE and the International Baccalaureate. These are a good passport nowadays to tertiary education both in Britain and of course across Europe – so important in the Europe of today.
I wish the school, parents and students, every success as you take forward your offer of the British tradition in education to a wide range of pupils from so many nationalities.
Sir Michael Arthur
Foreword from Mrs. Thiemen, Bezirksbürgermeisterin of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf
I congratulate the Berlin British School on relaunching its website.
I am very pleased that this school has been "at home" in our Bezirk for 15 years now, where it started by taking over the buildings of the former "First Charlottenburg School" at Dickensweg, and where it is following the tradition of sharing as good neighbours the premises with the Charles-Dickens-Grundschule.
The success of the school can be seen from its steady growth not only in student numbers but also in the expansion of what it has to offer. Starting with just under 100 girls and boys in the nursery and primary range it has become an educational institution extending over three sites for some 400 children and young people of some 50 nationalities.
Its Lower School as well as its Senior School moved to Wilmersdorf at the turn of the millennium thus preceding the merger of Charlottenburg and Wilmersdorf in 2001 into one Bezirk.
Furthermore, mastering tasks for the future is also on top of the agenda of the school, as can be seen in the building of a new Library and Science Centre, to provide the students, especially of the higher classes, from the year 2010 with the much needed space to give them full use of their library and science equipment.
I wish all concerned continued success in their task - not an easy one in this day and age – to prepare our children for a successful and self-determined life and I am confident that the newly designed website will help to introduce the school more closely to those in our city who are interested in education.
With kind regards
Monika Thiemen
Bezirksbürgermeisterin
Aims & Ethos
The Academic Programme of Berlin British School provides an education based on the ethos and philosophy of the British educational system, while taking due note of the international community which it serves and its geographical location at the heart of Germany.
Berlin British School believes that non-academic activities make a vital contribution to helping pupils build self-esteem, learn respect for other pupils, and of course forge lasting friendships. Pupils look forward to the annual ski trip and the annual adventure weekend. Regular school plays, musicals, and concerts introduce pupils to the rewards of performing for their parents and peers. Several dozen clubs meet weekly on different days after school, offering pupils an unparalleled range of extracurricular activities.
